What's Going ON?

Haven't heard from any of you guys in awhile and I know you all have some great lessons to share. I am loving teaching math and science. I am using a lot of vandawalle activities and putting some minor touches of my own on it. Science is always an adventourous time. I am raiding every cabinet in the school to find science experiments for the students. I would like to hear from you all!

Peace,

a great app

If you have access to an Ipad I found a great site showme.com. If you have a class blog the students can explain their thinking and then post it to the blog.

Here are some websites that might be of interest for reading/language arts. There are lots of good strategies, pay particular attention to some of the comprehension strategies.

Rounding

I used some of the Vandawalle activities for rounding and they were perfect. In the past I used the if it is 5 or more round up strategies, but I like the use of number lines and the hundred charts to help them see why we round up or down. I really liked the activity for creating a number line and finding where the students should place numbers.
This week I am giving a pretest on adding two digit numbers with word problems. I created a test and uploaded it to masterconnect.com. If you have not looked at the site it is worth the look.

Postcard Exchange

Here's a link to a postcard exchange website I found in Family Fun Magazine. As you join, your address is shared with people around the world. I'm pretty excited...the first address I was given is in Finland!

And We're Off!

I can honestly say, as a teacher that is not fresh out of the gates, I sure have that feeling. It has been strangely refreshing to try something new, beneficially challenging, and quite humbling to say the least.

In reading, we've been working on character and setting using the works of Patricia Polacco. Here are some websites that can be used to introduce this accomplished and fascinating lady!
